Bandit History
Brothers Mark & Brad Bailey were introduced to the Spierkoff's of Spirit Racing by our father back in the late 80's. Steve & Jeremy offered us positions on the Spirit BFG/Ford Motorsports pit crew for the Baja 1000 and we were bit!
We enjoyed being a part of the team and participating at the Baja 1000 for a number of years until having families and raising children became the priority.
A few years ago we decided it was time to introduce our sons to the desert scene so off we went. First stop, the 2007 Vegas to Reno race where we connected with a new generation of race teams and the crew at BFG.
In 2008 we were offered the opportunity to team up with Drew Belk, Jim Anderson, Dave Bonner and all the great people at Precepts Motorsports.
We started by chasing the 2008 Vegas to Reno race for them. Pleased with our performance, Precepts then asked us to join them for the 2008 Baja 1000.
The Baja Bandits concept was born on the long drive back fom Mexico.
2009 rolls around, the economy has thrown a curve ball at everyone in the sport and the Baja Bandits are no exception.
We are still proud to be a associated with Precepts Motorsports. Our focus for 2009 was to work with the Precepts team whenever possible, but to keep things closer to our home in Reno, Nevada.
We had always wanted to check out the VORRA series. The Fallon 250 hit our radar so off we went again. The Baja Bandits were offered an opportunity to pit four fine VORRA teams. We met up again with the VORRA crew at the Hawthorne 250 where we provided support for six VORRA teams at two separate pit locations. What a great group of people! We are looking forward to seeing them all again in 2010.
The Baja Bandits were back again at the Vegas to Reno race to pit for the 6043 and 7267 teams. Despite valiant efforts by both teams, neither were able to finish the race.
A quick side trip to the MORE Chili Cook-off race in Lucerne netted a win for the Precepts team in a brand new 5 unlimited car, fresh off the trailer with literally no testing. The Baja Bandits were proud to be a part of that race!
The Precepts team backed up the first win with another win at the DRIVE GP in Plaster City and then a second place finish at the MORE Powder Puff race! Look out VORRA racers, rumor has it this car may be at the VORRA desert races in 2010.
The Baja Bandits finished 2009 with a trip to Mexico for the Baja 1000. Where we again provided pre-run support and race support for the Precepts 501 team and the old 5 car. Unfortunately a blown engine cut our race short.
All in all it was a pretty good year and we are looking forward to more good times in 2010. Our boys really enjoy being part of desert racing. They are learning a lot and needless to say they are now bit!
We are the Baja Bandits!
